How They Hooked Me
While on Facebook, I was served an ad by Enipiria that said: “Hi, Are you interested in our Jade Roller Massager? They're 80% OFF for TODAY only!”, with a link to their Amazon store. After replying yes (80% off- tell me more!), I was then given an auto-response with a unique discount code to enter at checkout, plus a direct link to their item page on amazon.com.
So, I reviewed their Amazon page. There weren’t many reviews- but the graphics were visually appealing enough to at least keep my attention. I’m not quite sure of its exact price now (it’s since changed), but it was $12 and some change. It also had an additional coupon through Amazon itself, all applied with the simple click of a button.
It ended up costing me less than $2. Score! It took more than two days to get here (even though I have a Prime account), but less than 5, so I wasn’t too disappointed. When it did arrive, the product came in a clear plastic bag and three pieces: a small roller, a bigger roller, and a stick. How about instructions? Nope, just a bag small enough to fit these three pieces and nothing more. The packaging wasn't that impressive, but how could one complain about a roller made of jade for less than two dollars?
Time to Get Started
Using my common sense, I stuck the small roller onto one end of the stick and the larger roller on the other end. (Reviewers on the page complained that it came separated, but come on! That took all of 10 seconds, max.) Naturally, I took the complete tool into my hands and started rolling it back and forth, just to test it out. No squeaky sounds, smooth rolls, no problems whatsoever. “Okay,” I thought. “Everything seems good to go! Let me see how easily it rolls across my face.”
BAM! Disappointment ensued immediately. Once pressure was applied, the roller popped off the stick. Really? Okay, no big deal let’s pop it back on. Attempt #2: same thing! Now I was irritated. If they’re going to send this to us in pieces, at least make sure the final product is going to stay together!
Luckily, I had super glue handy—that did the trick! (Thank goodness for my barely-used closet of craft supplies! See, husband? This is why I refuse to get rid of that stuff! 😉)
It was finally time to get down to business.
I started by washing my face with my Hawaiian Healing Plumeria Face Wash. After that, I used the Garden Fresh Toner and then applied my Under Eye Serum all over my face. (I know it’s called an under eye serum, but, I also know by researching its ingredients that it’s perfect to use all over the face, neck, and décolleté to combat wrinkles, sagging, and – most importantly to me – blemishes.) I used the bigger of the two rollers and just rolled it all over my face. I loved the cool feeling of the jade on my skin, but my daughter laughed at me once she saw me going all willy-nilly with that roller. I had no directions to follow; I just started rolling the green, oval-egg-shaped tool all over my face.
First Impressions?
Not impressed. I was over it within the first minute. It fell apart, I didn’t know what I was doing, and it did not make me feel “relaxed and rejuvenated.” I almost trashed it.
…Almost.
I realized that to provide an accurate review, I needed to give this another shot. But I had to change my tactics. So, I decided to do some more research. It turns out I didn’t pay much attention when I was purchasing this item. The Amazon page had pretty detailed instructions.
I read them carefully, got a pretty good grasp on what to do, and headed to the shower to decompress for the night. I was intent on having a relaxing evening – so I turned on some music, exfoliated my skin with my Clarisonic Mia (and of course, my Hawaiian Healing products), and continued with my routine.
Once out of the shower, I applied my serum. This time, however, since it was in the evening, I combined the serum with the Nourishing Night Oil together in my palm and gently rubbed both into my skin. It wasn’t to produce a different result itself (in fact, it felt the same), but I love the combination of those two together.
I sat down on the toilet (lid down, of course. It wasn’t THAT kind of relaxation experience lol), and put on my favorite Kelly Clarkson song.
How to Properly Use the Jade Roller
Instructions from the seller’s page were as follows:
“- Starting at the base of your neck, roll the jade roller massager in an upward motion
- Move up to your face and work from an imaginary center line outwards towards your ears, where the lymph drains from your face
- Repeat each stroke 3-4 times.”
I did this exactly. Well, not exactly. Somehow, I was transported to some zen-like-trance state. I rolled this cold roller all over my face for nearly 4 minutes (the entire length of the song). I don’t know how it happened- but suddenly, all of my stresses and worries and thoughts and over-analyzation of the day disappeared. Had the song lasted longer, I probably would have kept going. It wasn’t until the song came to an end that I realized I had been doing it that long. I couldn’t believe it. It was the complete opposite experience that I had for the first time. It was almost transcendent.
Sure, if I were to hear this from someone or read it on some other random blog- I’d think they were trying to use magic trigger words to sell a product. But that’s not what I’m doing. I don’t care about the company I bought it from (sorry! I just don’t); I’m not trying to make money by posting this, and, last I checked, they weren’t even selling from the page that I originally bought it from anymore. It was just that relaxing.
Final Results:
I loved the cold jade as I rolled it up to my neck and towards my nose. I felt every part of my neck and face – I was in tune with my body. I felt the way my jaw curved; the way my cheekbones protruded and indented as only my face alone could; how my nose uniquely sat on my face – the size of my nostrils, the indention of my creases as they connected with the outer areas. I noticed how the smaller roller worked best in that area, too. I felt how my forehead needed a lighter touch than the lower part of my face, and how the vein in my temple was sensitive, yet loving the attention (different from usual, as they typically were only rubbed with tired fingers as I fought away stress-induced headaches from everyday annoyances).
Without the oil or serum, however, it probably wouldn’t have felt so smooth. Which, as they pointed out, was recommended. And the Hawaiian Healing Skin Care products that I already loved so much were perfect for this test.
While I can say that this product was worth the money, and others like it – even those that may be more expensive – have several benefits, I believe the real magic is found with what's soaking into the skin during the process.
Tools such as the jade roller aren’t necessary to have bright, glowing, healthy skin – it’s the skin care products in our arsenal that combat our most dreaded skin woes. And, as long as I have the Hawaiian Healing Skin Care collection, the popular tools that I get sucked into trying are only a bonus.
